The standard rug size is 5'x8'. These are often used in living rooms with furniture placed around the outside of the rug.
An 8'x11' rug allows the furniture legs to be placed on the rug, which pulls the room together. In a large room there should generally be at least 18 inches of bare floor surrounding the rug to give the illusion of a bigger area.

Rug Sizing Guide
Tips on choosing the right size rug for your space
The Living Room
The Bedroom
In the bedroom, the rug should be wider than the bed frame to anchor it. Often single and double beds work well with a 5'x8' size rug.
For queen and king bed sizes, a larger rug such as an 8'x11' should be used. The rug should be wide enough for one or two steps to be taken when getting out of bed.
How To Care For Your Rug
Vacuum Regularly
Vacuuming regularly will extend the life of the rug. Occasional professional cleaning is also recommended.
Clean Spills Immediately
If spills occur, act fast to clean the affected area. Blotting with a sponge or cloth using water and mild soap will have your rug looking fresh and new in no time.
Rotate Rug
Rotate your rug at least once each year, or twice if the rug is in a high traffic location. This will dispere the traffic patterns throughout the entire piece rather than concentrated on one area.
Rug Fibres
Different fibres can create a completely different style and feel.
- Heatset Polypropylene
- Polyester
- Wool
